Appearing without being present
An NRI party does not have to be physically present in Gurugram for most of a divorce matter. Mutual consent terms can be negotiated and signed abroad with attestation, and video appearance is permitted by many family courts for specific hearings. Where the personal appearance rules under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act genuinely require presence, that is flagged early rather than discovered at the last hearing.
Coordinating with a solicitor abroad
Where a parallel matrimonial proceeding is running in the country where the NRI spouse resides — common in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and the Gulf — the Indian matter is coordinated with that solicitor or attorney directly, so the two proceedings don't produce conflicting settlements on maintenance, custody or property.
